The Twelve StepsLifesGift
The hushed crowded room remained emotionally frozen with each determined step. Many were amazed by his ambition, and hoping for accomplishment. Others in the room remained steadfast that the first step would be an unavoidable attempt in failure. For a typical athletic individual, the steps toward the goal would have been a simple task.

The task was to begin each step adorned within a diver’s suit that weighed approximately two-hundred pounds, and walk across the wooden floor for twelve steps. However, this was no ordinary individual. He had faced adversity throughout his life, and never once quivered to the thought of failure. The request for twelve steps in the suit of burden for this unique individual would be what many would define as impossible – for he had lost a leg a few years ago in a horrific accident.

He knew the art of adversity painted a canvas of failure, but the faith and belief within this individual was a masterpiece in success. Beads of determined perspiration glided down his face as he reached deep down for the final step – and achieved with pride.

Tears glided down my face as the movie ended, the true story of overcoming adversity.

So very often in life, one experiences different forms of adversity. Trials in life that attempt to relinquish our hope and faith in ourselves and unto others. Life trials that become individual adversaries or battles of misfortune among nations. Due to an individual’s experiences in life, the belief in overcoming adversity depends on the believing in one’s self.

Adversity in life weakens with the understanding that with every trial in life there is a lesson to learn. As you experience adversity, begin by asking what you can learn from the experience. Focusing on the lessons of learning will create knowledge for future trials, and build confidence for the challenges ahead.

One can accept adversity with the negative vision of having one leg to stand on, or the positive vision of having one leg to walk forward.

Keep the faith,

Rick
